The 7 Chakras & Why You Should Pay Attention to Them!
Physical, mental and spiritual wellness are important aspects of a healthy and fulfilled life. Do we see it important to get your annual physical, dental cleaning, or the occasional interim doctor visits? I think it equally vital to maintain your mental spiritual well-being with meditation, prayer and affirmations.
All living beings are energy. Energy is neither destroyed, nor created; it just changes forms.
The energy that you dissipate and the energy you absorb all came before you and will be after you. I feel it is important to pay the most attention to my personal energy as I go about my day-to-day.
It is important to tend to the energy points within ourselves periodically so that we can live a life of balance, have emotional and mental stability, and ultimately connect with our higher self.
Our energy is abundant, and sometimes it may become blocked from receiving and giving. To become more in tune with your chakras, start at the root, and sit on the floor. Place your hands, facing up on your knees and focus on the chakra. Think of a ball of red light for example, at the base of your spine, and all the energy in that area!
"Chakra Healing: A Beginner's Guide to Self-Healing Techniques that Balance the Chakras," by Margarita Alcantara was the first insight I ever got to the world of chakra energy. I gobbled the book up word for word, and it will be my main point of reference throughout. I will link some other informative links within this article.
I am NOT a medical professional by any means. This article is intended to bring awareness and excitement toward an overlooked area of spiritual wellness. Many spiritual healers and Reiki Masters use crystals, herbs, foods, yoga, meditations, affirmations, and essential oils to compliment and intensify chakra healing practices. Please do not replace professional medical advice with my information. Never be afraid to consult an expert when it comes to your mind, body and soul!
THE ROOT CHAKRA
The first of the physical chakras is the root chakra, associated with the color red and the element of earth. It is located at the base of your spine, and is largely responsible for feeling grounded, safe and secure. There are a few quick and easy things you can to to stay grounded in your root chakra. Walk outside (SAFETY FIRST) with bare feet, or stomp your feet indoors to connect to your root chakra.
Your family, or tribe, is an important part of your security as well, so be mindful about the people you allow to enter your energy.
Here are some great affirmations for the root chakra
THE SACRAL PLEXUS CHAKRA
The next physical chakra is the sacral plexus chakra, it goes with the color orange and the element of water. It is located just below your belly button, and is associated with your emotions, creativity, abundance, and fertility. I can't say that I have a favorite chakra, but I feel this is the one that I give the most attention to. The most fun way to awaken your sacral chakra is to have a good dance. Fertility is at the forefront of the sacral plexus chakra, so what better reason to gyrate and activate the hips!
Here are some affirmations for the sacral plexus chakra.
THE SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA
The third physical chakra is the solar plexus chakra, associated with the color yellow. It is located just above your belly button, and is connected with the element of fire, our personality and self-worth. When your solar plexus chakra is in harmony, you feel empowered to live out your life's purpose. A good way to awaken, or improve your solar plexus chakra is to sit in a calm, quiet area, and ask out loud, for you to know your own worth and to feel whole and centered.
Here are some positive affirmations for the solar plexus chakra.
THE HEART CHAKRA
The heart chakra is special because it holds both spiritual and physical energy. The heart chakra is associated with the color green and the element of air. It is vital to experience compassion and connection with yourself and others. When your heart chakra is in harmony and alignment with your higher self, you will cultivate compassion, acceptance and in turn joy for ourself and others. Try laying on your back, slowly breathing, and say, "I release myself of all fear of giving and receiving love," focus on your heart!
Here are some positive affirmations for the heart chakra.
THE THROAT CHAKRA
The throat chakra is the first of the spiritual chakras. It is associated with the element of sound and the color light blue. It is imperative that you seek, know, and speak your truth. You will feel out of touch if the throat chakra is out of harmony. On the other hand, when the throat chakra is in harmony, we say what we mean and we mean what we say. Your will to live and follow your dreams is strong. Try soothing tea, and speak your truth to improve the harmony and higher energy in your throat chakra.
Here are some affirmations for the throat chakra.
THE BROW CHAKRA
The head, brow, or third eye chakra is associated with the color indigo and the element of air. The brow chakra is the center of our wisdom, insight and intuition. When people mention seeing with their third-eye, this is what they are talking about. When the third eye is open, a person will use insight and intuition to see past the physical details of this world. I can certainly attest to the power of intuition, there have been many strange things happen around me that I somehow knew about ahead of time. Has anything ever happened to you, or have you ever known something without any TRUE way of knowing?
FUN FACT: It is speculated that fluoride negatively affects the pineal gland [source] so maybe you should consider drinking filtered water. This related Mother | Lover | Musician post tackles a concerning water issue, disposable plastic water bottles. I also wrote in some great eco friendly filtration ideas as well as disposable plastic bottle alternatives.
THE CROWN CHAKRA
The final spiritual chakra is the crown chakra which is a source of connection to the divine and your higher self. The crown chakra is associated with the element of thought, and purple (sometimes white or gold). The crown chakra is your key to experiencing the true meaning of life, you understand that we are all unique, individual reflections of a higher consciousness. You are aware that your identity is more than your physical features, and you can elevate your consciousness.
Here are some crown chakra affirmations.
Do you agree that the chakras might be something to pay attention to?
I hope after reading this, you consider these energies in the near future. Try not to be overwhelmed with all of them in the beginning. Here are a couple of ways to get started working your chakras slowly and gradually:
Starting with the root, work up one chakra a day (or week), ending with your crown chakra.
Choose the one that really hits you and start there. (For me I knew it was my throat chakra.) Work a new chakra each day (or week) until you feel you have addressed your needs.
Consider adding a chakra regimen that routinely addresses each chakra individually, as well as your energy as a whole. You can always do extra sessions if the need arises.
Quick Start to working your chakras: locate the physical and spiritual places you intent to enter.
example: for the root chakra, focus your energy with each inhale on the base of your spine, while focusing your mind on releasing that tension with each exhale. The mantra for the root chakra is LAM, or I like to say I am safe, I am secure, I have what I need.
